Celebrating Matariki

Matariki was truly beautiful this year! We had the privilege of performing three waiata — Tūtira Mai Ngā Iwi, Ngā Iwi E and Te Aroha — and our performers brought wonderful energy and stage presence, getting the crowd smiling and singing along.

Set against the stunning lakefront on a beautiful sunny afternoon, it was a special way to come together and celebrate Matariki as a community. The afternoon continued with a delicious hāngī and shared kōrero around the bonfires, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere for everyone.

A huge thank you to our music therapist, Dennis, and our music teachers, Bridget and Ruairi, for their support in helping our performers shine.

Once again, Kahu Youth put on a spectacular event, and we feel so lucky to be part of such a meaningful community celebration.

We feel incredibly honoured to share these moments of connection, culture and belonging, and we’re already looking forward to next year!
